Great Gravel Road Rides

There are a series of unsealed-road rides in South Canterbury, North Otago and Otago that can be linked to create a great journey.

This map shows 7 rides that can be combined in a number of ways. (Click on the map to see a larger version). All the roads are mostly unsealed, with the Ranfurly - Paerau Road the only one with a significant sealed portion.

The rides are:

1. Mackenzie Pass in South Canterbury
2. Hakataramea Pass in South Canterbury
3. Dansey's Pass in North Otago / Central Otago
4. Ranfurly to Paeroa in Otago
5. Paerau to Alexandra over the Old Dunstan Road
6. Paerau to Clarks Junction over the Old Dunstan Road
7. Paerau to Roxburgh via Lake Onslow

You can also add the ride from Middlemarch to Waikouaiti to get you back to the coast via another substantially unsealed road, and the ride from Clarks Junction to Lawrence (these two rides yet to be written up).
