Aoraki Mount Cook

This is a trip that we've made so many times we've lost count; a trip we never tire of. As you would imagine, this mountainous region has many moods, and the scenery is always spectacular.

It's a fine, sealed road all the way, with the greatest hazard the motorists who pull up and park with little warning, then wander all over the road taking photographs.

The other hazard is the number of foreign tourists unaccustomed to driving on the left, who sometimes wander too far across the centre line for comfort.

Click here for a route map in Google Maps.

Depending, of course, on the weather, you'll get a series of different views of Mount Cook and the Southern Alps as you ride up the side of Lake Pukaki.

The Peters Point Lookout is a great spot for a photograph of Lake Pukaki and Mount Cook.

As you near Mount Cook Village the mountain looms over you - an awesome spectacle.

(Incomplete - more to come ... )
